There has been a new addition to our living room.
I spotted this table at a antique store in our town. It was sitting outside, with three or four others. I instantly fell in love with it. The woman who owned the shop said it was made from old barn wood… how rustic and charming.
The price $60 smackeroos. This seemed like a deal to me, the other desks I was drooling over considering for the space were well over $400 and were not nearly as charming.
When I got it home, I decided it was a bit rough. I wanted the top to still be rustic, but smooth to the touch. I took my trusty sander to it.
Then I stained it a dark walnut color.
That seemed too dark and there was no dimension in the texture of the top, which is one of the things l loved about it.
I decided it needed a coat of something light and bright. I hit it with a dose of pickling white wash. To do this, you simply brush it one, leave it for UNDER 2 minutes and wipe it off with a soft cloth. It worked like a charm.
I fell back in love with it.
I coated it with some spray polyeurothane to seal it.
Before I could put it in place I wanted to cushion the bottoms of the legs so it didn’t scratch my pretty floors. I cut out four pieces of brown felt, flipped my desk on its back and glued them on.
Voila. Now it sits in my living room. It is the perfect fit.
Here is a before and after of the desk.
As for the desk that was in our living room before, I have some exciting plans for that too! Stay tuned.
xoxo
